At a glimpse

The Millennium Center in Sofia is a modern multifunctional complex featuring a shopping gallery, offices, cultural facilities, and event spaces. It serves as a hub for shopping, entertainment, business events, and meetings, hosting various cultural and educational activities. Located centrally in Sofia, it attracts both local and international visitors, establishing itself as a significant architectural and cultural landmark in the city.

Challenge

The building accommodates various businesses, such as a hotel, a casino, a bank, restaurants, a club, a residential complex, and a car wash. Moreover, it serves as a prime venue for significant national and international conferences. Consequently, there are multiple stakeholders/tenants, each overseeing a specific allocation of parking spaces and managing various types of users with distinct permits. The key challenge was to design a parking system that is both functional and user-friendly, facilitating smooth movement for drivers throughout the facility, while also meeting the individual requirements of each business through a tailored parking management system.

Solution

In total, there were three parking areas spread across five levels, with two of them structured as nested parking facilities. One followed this arrangement: Parking (bank) within Parking (general parking). The second nested parking served as VIP parking exclusively for casino guests within the hotel. Additionally, a designated parking zone was allocated for residents.

To alleviate traffic congestion, a traffic guidance system was implemented along with parking availability signs. Each business was provided the authority to issue permits, and they could implement multiple validation procedures as needed.

Result

A total symbiosis was achieved between the user streams. The Millenium center’s parking system is able to process hundreds of cars daily without any hiccups.
